Isa's sitting/standing detection works via an upward-facing sensor that measures the distance to the ceiling. This allows Isa to detect whether you are sitting or standing.
To ensure that this works reliably, Isa should be calibrated for your workplace. This calibration is always necessary when you are in a new room. So, for example, if you use Isa at the office and at home, it must be calibrated once for each location.
To calibrate, slowly raise and lower your height-adjustable desk two or three times. Allow the desk to remain in each position for about 10 seconds so that Isa can optimally detect the height differences.
A few things that may affect my recognition:
🌞 Strong sunlight:
On very sunny days or when I stand right next to large windows, intense light can interfere with my sensor.
💡 Halogen lamps:
Strong halogen lamps, especially when they are close to me or shining directly on me, can interfere with my sensor signal.
🏠 Very high ceilings (over 4.5 m):
If the ceiling is too far away, my signal weakens and I cannot always reliably detect whether you are sitting or standing.
🔭 Obstacles above me:
Hanging lamps, chandeliers or other objects between me and the ceiling may interfere with my measurement.
🏔️ Very low or sloping ceilings:
In the case of sloping roofs or low ceilings, the distance may be too small to receive a clear signal.
Yes, you can! First and foremost through your behaviour. The more active you are and the more ergonomically you work, the less often you will receive reminders.
However, there are other ways to adjust the frequency of notifications. You can find out more here: Too many clues - or too few? How to bring Isa up to your level. - Deep Care
Isa will only give you tips or specific instructions if this makes sense from a health perspective. When exactly this happens depends on your physical activity and your ergonomic working methods.
Several factors influence how much strain your body is under during your working day – and thus also how often Isa is activated.
Firstly, Isa reacts when your cardiovascular and metabolic activity drops significantly due to prolonged sitting. How quickly this happens depends on how much you move in between.
A scientifically based example:
If you sit for around 60 minutes without a break, your metabolic activity can drop by up to 90%. This restricts the supply of nutrients to the body, which can lead to mental and physical exhaustion, muscle tension or headaches. In the long term, it even increases the risk of diabetes, obesity, depression or certain types of cancer.
Secondly, Isa provides feedback when your musculoskeletal system – i.e. bones, joints, cartilage and muscles – is under too much strain in one area. These structures need to be regularly loaded and unloaded in order to remain stable and well supplied with blood. Even with an ergonomic sitting or standing posture, certain areas are always subjected to more strain than others. That is why it is important to change your posture regularly.
Isa requires a stable USB connection. If your laptop is running on battery power or goes into standby mode, the power supply may be interrupted and Isa will shut down. Ensure that USB power saving mode is disabled (Windows: search for „USB settings“ in the taskbar). Alternatively, simply use the supplied power adapter to keep Isa active at all times.
The decision to equip Isa without a battery or rechargeable battery was made quite deliberately. We weighed up many aspects – two of which were particularly decisive:
Sustainability:
Without a battery, Isa requires significantly fewer resources to manufacture. In addition, all components are fully recyclable, which helps to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible.
Reliability:
In the office, there is almost always a power socket or USB port within reach. A battery would therefore offer no real added value – on the contrary: thanks to the continuous power supply via USB, Isa works stably without charging breaks and you never have to worry about recharging.
