Office boost from the water bottle: why hydration is more than just quenching your thirst

November 12, 2025

Small dehydration, big effect

Do you recognise this? You've been engrossed in your work for hours and only realise late in the day that you've had almost nothing to drink. The catch is that even a small loss of fluid of 1-2 % of your body weight can have noticeable consequences. Even this mild dehydration reduces your concentration and energy levels. Many people then feel tired, have difficulty thinking clearly and their mood turns negative. You are irritable and annoyed. Scientists have discovered that even mild headaches and exhaustion can occur long before thirst kicks in. The perfidious thing is that thirst is a latecomer - it only sets in when you are already dehydrated. So don't rely on drinking only when you feel thirsty. Your body needs water before it sounds the alarm.

Water keeps the body going

Why does even a slight lack of water have such a strong effect? Water is involved in almost every process in your body. It serves as a means of transport for nutrients in the blood and ensures that every cell is supplied with oxygen and energy. If there is a lack of fluid, the blood becomes thicker and more viscous, it literally „thickens“ when there is a lack of fluid. As a result, your circulation slows down, your brain receives less oxygen and you feel tired and unfocussed. Thermoregulation also suffers without enough water: your body can no longer cool itself effectively by sweating. Your internal air conditioning starts to stutter, you overheat more quickly and feel unwell. Even your fasciae, your body's connective tissue network, need water to stay supple. Think of fascia as a sponge: It is brittle and rigid when dry, but elastic and slippery when moist. Sufficient water is crucial for fascia to glide smoothly and allow you to move freely. It's no wonder that a lack of fluid often goes hand in hand with tension and fascial pain.

Drops instead of a tank - regular drinking counts

Because our body cannot store water in reserve, the following applies: drink in small, regular sips instead of occasionally visiting the petrol station. Even at rest, you are constantly losing fluids through breathing, sweating and metabolism. You need to constantly replenish your water supply to maintain your performance and well-being. Many people only reach for a glass when their mouth is dry or their head is pounding. But by then the body has long been working in emergency mode. By drinking throughout the day before you feel thirsty, you keep your engine running. Remember: a well-hydrated body feels more alert, lighter and simply better.

Isa recognises your drinking behaviour - completely automatically.

Isa uses the 3D infrared sensor and our specially developed algorithms to measure when, how often and how much you drink. If you are missing liquid or have been drinking for a while, it reminds you at exactly the right moment.

Think you're drinking enough? A look at your personal pattern might surprise you.
Because most people drink too little - or too late. Isa shows you what really happens.
